M&M Excavating Show almost over-
I enjoyed watching the M&M Kenworth Gravel Trains busy at work yesterday . They really moved along at a surprisingly fast pace.
I also have always loved big dump trucks my whole life.
I remember as a young boy sitting in class while the teacher gave the lesson , and I remember I was busy drawing dump trucks . That explains why I never did well on tests, ha,ha.
Not sure where this obsession with this equipment came from , but I sure still like it to this day.
If you go to ( 07 summer pics ) in the gallery section you can see several more pics I took yesterday of M&M spreading road gravel in on the N. Ohio St. Curb, gutter and re-black topping project.
Some of you know I plan to build a Michigan Gravel Train model in the future. It will be around 15 feet long. I actually started it a couple years ago and got orders for other models to build and have not been caught up since.
Hough Paydozer Progress- I got the blade bent and the rear welded on the curve. The cutting edge is drilled and bolted in place. The blade frame is built and bolted to the bottom of the paydozer frame. The two tilt cylinders are built and in place. The lift cylinder is also built and hooked to the top of the front frame section. The swivel , skid/shoes are also built and in place . I have a couple small pieces to weld to the top spill edge and it will be roughed in.
NICOLE AND BILL – Today is a special day for Deb and I as Nicole and Bill are on their way home for a few days.
This is their only visit for the year during the summer. We only see them four time s a year so we look so forward to them being home.
They usually keep pretty busy trying to see everyone and still have time with us. We are very understanding and we adjust to their daily schedules just fine. Bill usually heads for the woods a few days with his family and Nicole heads to the malls with her family, LOL.
DAN UPDATE – My mom said Dan’s daughter will bring Dan home for a short visit next week as he will be released from his room at the rehab center. But she said he will be going back to stay at a near by motel type building for out patients and still do theropy for several more days.
DEBBIE – She also continues to make slow progress.
MICHIGAN 675 LOADER – This loader held the record for the worlds largest front -wheeled loader for many years. I love this machine too and after climbing all over it a few weeks ago, I am even more excited to get building it in a couple weeks.
The Michigan 675 will probably be the last model I will be able to finish before we go to Indy to the National Truck and Construction Toy Show Aug. 17, 18 and 19th .
Have a nice Sat.

I talked to the operator of this Komatsu excavator quite a bit over the last two weeks . I hope his boss doesn’t ever read this and think he wasn’t working hard enough , ha,ha.
I asked him about M&M Excavating using so many Komatsu machines . He told me the boss said they can buy two Komatsu machines for the price of one from Cat. He said the downside was after a below normal hours of use they start to wear out much faster.
He said he enjoys the Komatsu , but he said nothing beats the CAT equipment. M&M Excavating also uses quite a bit of John Deere Construction Equipment too.
John Deere has some very nice looking loaders and dozers.
I enjoyed watching the Komatsu excavator operator operate the shovel over the last couple weeks and I asked him about the contests they have where operators pick up eggs and such with their big equipment . He said he has a friend that won that contest a year or two ago.
He said that he could pick up a dime off the pavement with his bucket, so that was pretty cool .
My brother and his wife progress- My mom said they get to go for their first ride in a van today to visit the doctors. So that is more great news.

M&M EXCAVATING CO. – The guys from M&M Excavating here in Gaylord are doing the final grade on our block . They should start putting the top layer of road gravel on by tomorrow. They are also digging out the driveway entrances and should start pouring the first ones down a few blocks today. Deb hasn’t been able to drive her Cadillac and I haven’t been able to drive the Vette now for almost three weeks. Our road has been so sandy since they began. Several people got stuck in the sand in front of our house .
The Waste Management Trash Truck got stuck and had to have Ronnies Wrecker come with their biggest wrecker to pull them out. So it will seem good to have gravel on it again. They said they should get the end of our driveway end poured next week.
In the meantime , it looks like another week of not using the cars .
It will be very nice when it is done and well worth it. I am very pleased with M&M and how organized they are doing this project.
It has been fun watching them . I have never watched a project like this be done before. The guys are all very nice .
SIXTY -DEGREE DROP IN TEMPERATURE in Gaylord —
It was 96 degrees at the bank downtown two days ago and the weatherman is saying tonight we are going to see 36 degrees . Not sure if this old overweight body of mine can handle that kind of change, LOL.
Dan and Debbie — My mom said everyday they both get better and better. She said they continue to have lots of company. Their daughter is now home from her honeymoon and can be with them to help them now too.
HOUGH PAYDOZER PROGESS- I got the ripper roughed in and after lunch I will cut out the first parts for the front push blade.
DEB’S NEW HOURS- Today is like a Fri. for Deb with her new banker hours of Tues. thru Thurs. and 9:00am to 3:30 pm. and with four day weekends. She is loving it !! I am very happy for her !!!!!!
Hi Deb,
I will continue to love you even with your smaller paychecks, LOL. Now that is a true test of a marriage, LOL.
p.s. I am very proud of the great mom you are and the great wife you are !!!!!!!!! Thanks for waiting on us all these years (:>).
Hope you all have a nice Thurs.

We have lived in Gaylord on N. Ohio Street for 24 years . For the last 23 years the City Snowplows have thrown gravel and dirt from the shoulder of the road into the lawn up to 15 feet into the lawn.
Gaylord received over 180 inches of snow last winter . The city plows go out every time we get betweeen on and two inches. So that is a lot of times the plows go by and a lot of dirt and gravel in the lawns by the time spring arrives.
Nothing anyone can do to stop it, it’s just the way it is when you have gravel on the shoulders of the road in front of your property.
WELL, This winter will be different !!!!!! , Oh Yea !!
As of yesterday , we now have brand new curbs on the whole mile of N. Ohio Street.
So now the snowplows will have to jump the curb and dig down into my lawn to dig it up from now on.
I’m not saying that couldn’t happen, ha,ha.
Some of them snowplow drivers want to plow right up to our front porch, LOL .
My friend Tom is one of them, ha,ha.
Hough Paydozer model update- I got the engine built and bolted into the frame. Now I am cutting out the first parts for the rear ripper assembly.
Have a nice Wed.
